This is one of my favorite Barbara Michaels books! It takes place in Cornwall and there's a dark and handsome stranger, a cromlech (circle of standing stones), and an ancient Roman mosaic. There's also some suspicion that mister tall, dark, and handsome is a selkie.
Ending was just too rushed for me. Otherwise, loved the setting and the atmosphere.
