Wow. I will be haunted by this book for a long time. This is one of the only novels that I have felt compelled to underline. Profound and profoundly disturbing.
I'm impressed with Orwell's ability to build a story around an issue he felt so strongly about that he had to insert (essentially) an essay or two into the middle.
Not much to say that no one else has. Clearly this is one of the greatest, and most disturbing, books ever written. I will say that I'm the only person I know who managed to find some sliver of hopefulness in the end of the book... which says alot about me, I guess. (Mostly that I'm an idiot.)
Another one in this great series. I have been borrowing them from the library, but I would not mind owning them. They are great reads, and a nice way to see how the characters evolved.
