Wayne B. Thomas is the John T. Steed Chair in Accounting at the University of Oklahoma. Professor Thomas completed his undergraduate degree in Accounting at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and received his PhD in Accounting from Oklahoma State University. He first served on the accounting faculty of the University of Utah from 1996 to 2000 and then joined the University of Oklahoma. His teaching interests are in financial and international accounting. He particularly enjoys teaching introductory financial accounting, where he currently instructs nearly 600 students per year. He has received the Outstanding Educator Award from the Oklahoma Society of CPAs, along with many other teaching honors at the university, college, and departmental level. He co-authors Financial Accounting 2e, with David Spiceland and Don Herrmann.His research interests include market-based accounting research, earnings management, and financial statement analysis. He has previously served as an editor of The Accounting Review for the American Accounting Association.Professor Thomas was married to Julee in 1990 and has four children (born): Olivia (September 30, 1995), Jake (July 28, 1997), Eli (July 4, 2000), and Luke (May 18, 2004). He enjoys basketball, tennis, golf, ping pong, crossword puzzles, scuba diving, and coaching little league sports.
