Tried to read this. A little hard to read due to the content. It was very, very dark. It was written well but I just couldn't read it.

I think this was quite good and an interesting historical perspective of a resort that slaveowners took their "wenches" to.

A definitely disturbing and shocking read and yet it felt like the story was lacking any real depth. I believe there could have been so much more explored here, for instance Fran and Lizzie's relationship. This book is fantastically written; however, the topic of the book is very disturbing. Def. not for light reading. When the reader truly takes in the story line, it is pretty humbling and thought provoking. At least, that is what I have found for myself.

Wench is the story of four slaves who meet at the Tawawa Resort in Xenia,OH in the summer of 1853. Their white slaveowners bring them there nominally to do chores, but as their wives are missing, the women take up perverse domestic relationships with their masters, playing slave, concubine and wife ...

Set in the mid 19th Century, Wench offers a fictionalized account of a very real and strange practice. Southern slaveowners would vacation in a particular Ohio resort and take slave women along as their vacation partners, leaving their wives at home. The story centers on several slave women, their d...
