I was excited the first quarter of this book, thinking it seemed like it would be a good introduction to the Orphan Trains that I know very little about. While there is not a lot of time devoted to a historical presentation about the Orphan Trains, I don't know how accurate a depiction this book is...

An interesting read for anyone who loved the Little House books growing up, and desperately wanted to be Laura.

I only read a few of these essays, including the one by Sara Zarr. Insightful and definitely worth reading.

McClure, a lover of the Little House on the Prairie books, starts to research Laura Ingalls Wilder's life. It's a ramble through McClure's psyche, really, with far more information about the author than about Laura herself. But I think she did get at some of the things that make the Little House b...

I loved the Little House books as a child and as soon as I saw the illustrations on the cover of this book, I knew I had to read it. Those illustrations have stuck with me for years. I never quite realized how much of Little House in the Big Woods nestled itself into my brain until I began reading t...

"And then, for a while afterward, one question kept nagging at me: what would LIW think of all this -- the home-steading movement, Sam and Heidi Ackerson, the Wisconsin church group and their preparedness retreats? Like Rose, Laura disliked FDR and the public-works programs of the New Deal. They bot...

THis was a fun read. I found myself laughing out loud quite often. I was actually expecting the book to be about the author "living" the life of Laura Ingalls for a year, but it turned out to be her just going around and visiting different sites connected with the books. Still worth the read!

Given that Laura Ingalls Wilder is near the top of my list of famous people I'd like to meet in Heaven, I could not wait to read this book by a fellow Wilder/Little House groupie. To that end, The Wilder Life was an enjoyable trip through the mind of a person a lot like me.Parts of McClure's quest t...

Wendy McClure loves Little House on the Prairie. And I mean loves. And don’t misunderstand me. It’s not Little House on the Prairie the tv series. She loves Little House on the Prairie the book series.Apparently she is not alone. There is a whole world out there of people who delight in all things L...
