Novalee Nation has always been unlucky with sevens. She's 17, seven months pregnant, 37 pounds overweight -- and now she finds herself stranded at a Wal-Mart in Sequoyah, Oklahoma, holding just $7.77 in change. An hour ago, she was on her way from Tennessee to a new life in Bakersfield, California. Suddenly, with all those sevens staring her in the face, she is forced to accept the scary truth: her no-good boyfriend Willy Jack Pickens has left her with empty pockets and empty dreams. But Novalee is about to discover treasures hidden in Sequoyah -- a group of disparate and deeply caring people, among them blue-haired Sister Thelma Husband, who hands out advice and photocopied books of the Bible ... Moses Whitecotton, the wise, soft-spoken, elderly black photographer eager to teach Novalee all he knows ... and Forney Hull, the eccentric town librarian who hides his secrets -- and his feelings -- behind his world of books.

1.0 Where the Heart Is
Read this in high school. It involves sadistic homophobia and disability-as-(divine) punishment. Total trash, and not the good kind.

5.0 "Can you feel that?" "That tiny bomp...bomp...bomp?" that's "Where The Heart Is" by Billie Letts

I really didn't care for the bits about her ex-boyfriend Willie Jack at all he was an idiot and I couldn't stand hi...

I saw the movie version of this book when it first came out and it has become one of my favorite movies, so this book has been one I have wanted to read for a while. I just finally got around to reading it now and am glad that I did. This book was as good, if not better, than the movie. This heartwa...

I love Billie Letts, I love this book and I love all the crazy characters in it. I've actually read this twice. I read it once when it came out and then a couple years later before I watched the movie. It's just a great heartwarming story and I would definitely recommend it!

Although the book contained additional scenes and characters not in the movie, I think I still prefer the movie. It wasn't a b...
