Well, I finished it. And I despised every moment of it, from the writing to the characters. Maybe I just don't understand or appreciate a writing style such as Styron's, but I just found it incredibly tedious and tiresome to wade through all of Stingo's incessant (and lust-fueled) rambling. I hat...

Sophie's choice is about a young writers initiation into sex, a doomed romance and the holocaust experience of a polish woman named Sophie. These three threads are woven together quite well. I found the writers story the least interesting and the most interesting is the holocaust part of the book,...

I finally finished this book. I thoroughly enjoyed Styron's style of writing throughout the book. He definitely has a way with words. I also really enjoy reading about WWII so this book was right up my alley.

Loved the book, kind of. Made the mistake of taking this on vacation to Hawaii. Cried my head off for the 3 days it took me to finish it. If you're up for a very sad book that will make to cry like a baby, this is the book for you.

This was the first Styron I ever read and I couldn't believe how fabulous his writing was. And then the story on top of that. I never use the word, but here goes - awesome. 5 stars + 5 more stars. All the stars there are.

One of the most depressing stories ever told. No, I don't demand that stories about the Holocaust contain some happy ending about the triumph of the human spirit (although I can appreciate a good one like The Book Thief or [b:Schindler's List|375013|Schindler's List|Thomas Keneally|http://ecx.images...
