Ross Poldark, the scandalous son of a minor land-owner, comes back from serving the Crown in the War for American Independence to find his father dead, his estate in disrepair, and the woman who he'd hoped to wed engaged to someone else (a formerly close friend, actually). Understandably, he's about...

Kolejne tomy cyklu o Rossie Poldarku zachowują podobny poziom, oferując interesującą historię o czasach z przełomu wieków XVIII i XIX w Kornwalii. Pisane dość dawno, ponad pół wieku temu, oferują powieść historyczną, w której nie brakuje opisów świata przedstawionego, zwyczajów, sposobu życia, co ni...

This book was a lot of work for me to read. I started on it in November 2016. I liked the premise at the beginning, but then a few chapters in I lost interest and didn't like the change in the main character (she wasn't going in the direction I was hoping for, so it's all on me.) I left the book alo...

As I hoped, I enjoyed the book just as much, if not more than the Masterpiece series! Of course there are differences, but over all I think the show stayed true in much of the story. I enjoy getting the full story though, and plan to continue enjoying both. While I love Ross, I feel that his relatio...

Coming home from war is hard. Coming home from war to learn that the woman you love is marrying your cousin, your father has just died, your servants are drunken slatterns, and that you have a lot of work ahead of you to turn around the estate’s fortunes is exponentially harder. It’s little wonder t...

When reading this novel, it is easy to understand why it was adapted twice for the screen. The storytelling is highly entertaining and fast paced, and is supported by a fine cast of characters. I love grouchy, crusty characters and Jud Painter with his “wife” Prudie are among the best I have encount...
