An excellent riff on fairy tales. I'm not actually sure what to say about it beyond that. If you've read any of the discworld books, this one won't disappoint you. I listened to the audiobook, and Nigel Planer did an excellent job, though I disliked his Magrat and Ella choices; his voices for ...

More fun with Granny Weatherwax & friends as they travel to foreign parts to stop a fairy godmother from making people have happily ever afters, whether it’s wanted or not. Loved it. ‘We’re her godmothers,’ said Granny. ‘That’s right,’ said Nanny Ogg. ‘We’ve got a wand, too,’ said Magrat. ‘But you hate godmothers, Mistress Weatherwax,’ said Mrs Gogol. ‘We’re the other kind,’ said Granny. ‘We’re the kind that gives people what they know they really need, not what we think the...

This is the third book in the Witches subseries of Discworld. The last time I enjoyed a Discworld book this much was when I read the second Witches book, Wyrd Sisters. I’m not sure if I’m far enough into Discworld to proclaim my favorite subseries yet, but Witches is the top contender. As with th...

"Witches Aboard" follows the Lancre coven across the Disc to the Big Easy, well Terry Pratchett's version of the Bayou, as they attempt to save the day by not allowing the servant girl to marry the Prince. The happily-ever-after and fairy godmother tropes do not survive either Pratchett or Granny We...

We follow Granny, Nanny, and Magrat as they travel to Genua and subvert the narratives of all the stories they encounter on their way. This one gets extra points for the "pray" exchange, some Granny awesomeness, and a solid ending (well, as solid as you're going to get in a swamp, anyway). Plus some...

In Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett an old fairy godmother dies and passes on her wand to the young witch Magrat. She travels, with the other two witches in her coven, to a far off city to complete the work her predecessor started. The trio encounter lots of strange events on the journey and things...

Another fun Discworld story featuring everyone's favorite witches. The plot incorporates various fairy tales and the road trip to the far away city had numerous laugh out load sections. Listened to the audio read by Nigel Planer who did his usual reliable job.

As I was reading this book I felt that having been abroad (which I suspect is what the English refer to as crossing the Channel and visiting the Continent, though here in Australia we refer to leaving the country as going overseas) and in a way I was able to relate to the witches when they ended up ...
