Becky E. Conekin teaches 20th century British and European History at Yale University. She holds a PhD in European History from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (U.K.). Prior to joining Yale in 2009, she was Reader in Historical and Cultural Studies at the London College of Fashion, where for many years she ran the MA in the History and Culture of Fashion. She has held visiting professorships at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris, and the Humboldt University, Berlin, as well as visiting fellowships at the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH), the University of Cambridge, and the Humanities Institute, the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. She is the author of numerous books and articles including: Lee Miller in Fashion (IN PRESS forthcoming Thames & Hudson, 2013); "The Autobiography of a Nation": The 1951 Festival of Britain, and Eugene Vernier: Fashion, Femininity & Form, Essays by Robin Muir and Becky E. Conekin (2012 Hirmer/Univ of Chicago Press), as well as co-editor of Moments of Modernity: Reconstructing Britain 1945-1964, The Englishness of English Dress, and the special double issue of the academic journal, Fashion Theory, dedicated to Vogue magazine. Her work has appeared in the international, interdisciplinary anthologies, The Design History Reader, (2010) and The Men's Fashion Reader (2009). Her next monograph, Pretty Hard Work: A History of Fashion Modelling in London From the Bomb to Bowie, is funded by fellowships from the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust. Becky E. Conekin is a contributor to fashion photographer, Nick Knight's ShowStudio, and she has served as historical consultant to journalists, including Cathy Horyn of the New York Times, Libby Copeland of Slate, and Homa Khaleeli and Mimi Spencer of The Guardian.
