Brenda Wilmoth Lerner's coverage of science, public health and global issues is respected for its accuracy, objectivity, and passion in articulating contextual cultural and social connections. In addition to RUSA Book and Media Awards for her books on Climate Change and Biotechnology, Lerner's book, Infectious Diseases: In Context, was named an Outstanding Academic Title. Lerner's work in areas at high risk to endemic and emerging diseases infuses her writing with rare cultural insights, earning a reputation for accessible, engaging, and award-winning coverage of complex topics and urgent issues. Lerner directed what critics termed "exceptionally fine" and "authoritative." coverage of SARS, H1N1, and other emerging disease outbreaks. Her book, the Encyclopedia of Espionage, Intelligence, & Security, was selected for Georgetown University's Selected Resources for Security Studies, the Defense Intelligence Agency Library, FBI Academic Library, Naval War College Library, and other defense/intelligence collections. An R.N and former infection control specialist, Lerner is a member of the International Society of Infectious Diseases, attending the 12th Annual ISID Congress in Lisbon (2006) and the 13th Annual ISID Congress in Kuala Lumpur (2008). Brenda served on the Advisory Board for the Gale Encyclopedia of Neurological Disorders and continues to serve as advisor to major media sites covering an array of global issues. As her editorial and documentary project schedules allow, Lerner continues her studies as an admitted degree candidate at Harvard University with a concentration on courses devoted to medical humanities and public health issues.
