A native of California, Donna Spector is a playwright as well as a poet and fiction writer. Her plays have appeared Off Broadway, regionally and in Canada, Scotland, Ireland and Greece. Her Off Broadway play Golden Ladder was published in Women Playwrights: The Best Plays of 2002 and The Best Stage Scenes of 2002. A member of Dramatists Guild and Poets & Writers, she received two National Endowment for the Humanities. grants to study in Greece, and a program of her poems was aired on Australian national radio. Winner of the Masters Poetry Prize, the James Sunwall Comedy Award and the Eileen Heckart Drama Award, she has been nominated three times for the Pushcart Prize in poetry, and an editor at Harper Collins nominated her novel The Candle of God for the Pushcart Editors Novel Award.. Spector has an M.A. in English from U.C. Berkeley and has taught English, French, drama and creative writing in high schools and colleges. She now lives in an old, New York farmhouse across from a wildlife sanctuary. She writes upstairs in her study every day while watching seasons change outside her windows.
