Pięknie opisany alternatywny nasz świat, w którym rządzi magia. Magia, która zmienia wszystko. Począwszy od kosmetyków, budynków, poprzez technikę i technologię, wojskowość, biologie i genetykę, aż po pogodę. Ale wszystko ma też swoją ciemną stronę. Zbyt długie przebywanie w miejscach gdzie są silne...

This is a collection of 36 stories ranging from 1981 to 2002 and purporting to represent the best shorts in science fiction in those years. A blurb on the back by GRR Martin says that "if a science fiction fan from 1984 chanced to stumble into a time warp and pop up in the here and now, and wanted t...

Fun and highly listenable anthology stories on time travel and nicely narrated by different readers. I love speculation about time travel and such and hence enjoyed these multiple takes on time travel. I listened to these stories with my wife since they make for good entertainment and none of the st...

Average of 2.68 stars for all the items rounds up to 3, I suppose. Overall, rather disappointing. There are two truly excellent stories; I'd read them both before.*** Introduction - The 19th-Century Roots of Steampunk - Jess Nevins. Makes an interesting and informative connection between steampunk ...

(I got this book from NetGalley, in exchange for a honest review.)There's quite interesting world-building here, and I really liked discovering what the author developed in "The Light Ages". An England dominated by Guilds, owing their rank and power thanks to the mysterious aether and how it made sp...

Once again an Arkham House collection from Jim Turner's tenure (1996 this time) that is just outstanding by an author that I had never heard of before. He seems to be better known in the UK. The stories have a feel of an edgier Ray Bradbury. They run the gamut from straight fiction to science fic...

3.5 stars. I listened to this novel and loved the narrator and much of the novel but he goes to big (environmental destruction, disaster, politics, culture, body farms) and then can't quite pull it together in the end. His narrative frame didn't work. Although the tone was really consistent and it w...

Not too representative of the genre—people who're not already familiar with steampunk may be mistaken in their vision of the genre if they rely on the panel of short stories in this book. The stories range from okay to forgettable, and I regret that nothing in there really stood out for me.
