John Malik is an award winning chef in Greenville, SC. Along with his wife Amy they owned and operated 33 Liberty Restaurant from 2001 until 2008. Following that he was Excecutive Chef at two upscale retirement communities in the Greenville area. John has a B/A in English from Southeastern Louisiana University and has written for Smithsonian Air & Space, Saveur, the Greenville News, Greenville Journal, e-Gullet and has been featured in Southern Living, Bon Appetit and Chile Pepper magazines. John has made numerous guest chef appearances including the Food Network, Fox & Friends, the International Food & Wine Festival at Walt Disney World, Great Chefs of the South (Beaufort, SC) a Salute to Southern Chefs (Paso Robles, CA), the Epicurean Evening (Los Angeles, CA) Charlotte Shout (Charlotte, NC) and Greenville's own Euphoria. John and Amy celebrated 25 years of marriage in May of 2012. He just so happens to make a really good doughnut. I was the chef at a very nice retirement community in Greenville for about a year and on April Fool's Day (not kidding!) we had a change in management and our community got a new boss. A wonderful, smart and strong woman that was totally dedicated to the care of the elderly. A month later she asked her department heads to do a daily rounds report just like a doctor would, "Get out of your department, meet someone new, say hello to a stranger then write me and tell me who you met or what impact you had that day." About a month later my short emails to her had bloomed into 500 word essays. She would read them, shake her head and smile then tell me "you really should write a book John, you're such a gifted writer." So she was the one that planted that seed, my wife loved the idea and a year later I had written my first novel. In early 2013 Doughnuts for Amy was accepted by Winter Goose Publishing and will return in Spring of 2014.
