Joseph Hill "Joss" Whedon (born June 23, 1964), is an American screenwriter, executive producer, director, occasional composer and actor, and founder of Mutant Enemy Productions. He is best known as the creator and showrunner of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003), Angel (1999-2004), and Firefly (2002), which have also seen popular comic book adaptations, published by Dark Horse Comics and IDW.

Disclaimer: I've never seen a single episode of the series or read any of the comics before, but I got this in a Humble Bundle, which I finally got around to reading. I don't know. I think it would have been much more fun if I had grown up with the series, so there would have been nostalgia involved...

More Mal and co. is always good and I'm enjoying the switch from filling in gaps left by the early demise of Firefly to continuing the story beyond the Serenity film, however there's also a little gem of a self-contained story here that looks back on Zoe and Wash. Don't start here.
