Another five star book from Kate Quinn. Here is an author who has never failed to disappoint me. I have three more books to get through so fingers crossed! Ancient Rome isn't really my thing. I am one of the few people in the world who saw the movie Gladiator and didn't like it. I have no idea why. ...

Kate Quinn is a skilled writer who expertly recreates the world of ancient Rome in this book. That being said, ancient Rome was a pretty horrible place, apparently filled with selfish, hedonistic people. By employing constantly changing points of view in this book, Quinn introduces the reader to sev...

Good, but could use some editing. As Renae pointed out, the vocabulary is anachronistic and once you notice that, it's hard to not to see it. Still, I enjoyed it, and plan to read the sequels.

This is exactly the kind of book that I love, and sadly, don't see all that much of anymore. It's rich in historical detail (both factual and tastefully embellished) and full of enough scandal and intrigue to keep you reading. I read it through in one night. I could not put it down.

I tried very hard to like this one. Set in ancient Rome, during the reign of Emperor Domitian, it tells the story of two doomed lovers, Thea and Arius, who struggle not just for freedom but also to save their very lives. Along the way, we get a tour of the Colosseum's deadly games, with plenty of de...

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I took it because I didn’t know what to read next. I thought it will be some shallow romance story, but I was wrong. This book is great! It has everything: interesting plot (constantly something happens, this book is full of events, the plot doesn’t drag...

I loved this so much!! There were so many emotions that this book made me feel. I felt the love that Arius and Thea had for each other. Their journey was not easy nor was Rome very nice to them. I'm glad it all ends well but I was an emotional mess reading about all the sh*t they went through to sur...

I really enjoyed this book at the beginning. Somewhere, around page 100, it became a mess of storylines inter-related but poorly executed. After awhile, I sought out the characters I liked and pretty much ignored all the other POV's. This was like book gone wild but not in a good way. Too bad, since...

An amazing story of courage and love that survives despite the blood, violence and depravity that only ancient Rome can bring. The main character Thea starts off as a simple slave although there is nothing simple about her journey. Truly a testament to her character to not break after all she goes th...
