Day 25 - A character who you can relate to the most

Tammy Lauper from Coldheart Canyon by Clive Barker. She was a fangirl of the main character, Todd. So much so that when he pretty much fell off the face of the earth, as the president of his fan club, she made it her mission to find him. Boy, this isn’t painting me in the best light.

What I’m trying to say is that I related to the fangirl phenomenon. I have been a part of that in the past and still consider it a good description of me from time to time, though I’m older and more mellow than I was in my twenties. I understood what made Tammy tick, and I never felt at any point like Barker was dissing fans or trying to make her look bad. On the contrary, she seemed loyal and kind and tenacious in a way that wasn’t unhinged but rather could’ve been Todd’s salvation. A very positive portrayal of a superfan.

Also, the overweight thing. I am overweight, and so few female protagonists who could be considered anything close to a hero share this physicality that I was amazed. And stunned into pure joy that she’s actually pretty awesome.

Day 19 - Favorite book turned into a movie

This was a tough one, as there are a lot of adaptations that I love, but this answer kept nagging at me. Clive Barker’s The Hellbound Heart turned Hellraiser. Proving adaptations by authors are the best. Oh… I just thought of Maximum Overdrive. Okay, so this is an exception.
