Release (Hold, #2) by Claire Kent Review
Release (Hold Book 2) - Claire Kent

Kyla was born the younger daughter of the royal family of a planet known throughout Coalition space for its indulgence and debauchery. Travelers come from all over to give into their deepest desires in the decadent royal court, but Kyla has been surrounded by sex and physical indulgence since childhood. Now she wants nothing to do with such empty pleasures--at least, until she encounters Hall.

Hall is irresistibly sexy and mysterious, and he seems to know her from the inside out. He makes her want to explore the sensual side of herself for the first time. But he has already declared himself as a potential suitor of her sister, which means he's completely off limits to Kyla. He's also hiding a gift that makes him as dangerous as he is attractive.

When she discovers a plot that threatens to bring down the iron fist of the Coalition on her peaceful planet, Kyla is forced to rely on a man who has been hiding secrets from her all along--a man who makes her want things she's never wanted before.

Review

I was very excited when I realized Kent was going to put out more books in the world she set Hold.

This book isn't a prison planet one but it does feature a character we met there. He has cool powers and time in the prison changed him into a better person. Kind of... lol The heroine is a bookworm living in a public sex/orgy society who does care for that sort of thing. T

his is an odd book for me. I read it easily and happily. I like the characters and the writing as always with Kent/Noelle Adams is very good. But everything is paper thin. The love between the couple, the world building, character motivation... I think because I knew the hero from the last book and had snuck and read the third book in the series, I was more inclined to hang in there.

Great Story and Characters
Rock & Release (Summer Love Series Book 1) - Riley Edgewood

Cassady is with Teagan who is a friend from her youth. Six months earlier Cassady’s brother Jason had died and she having problems moving on. Teagan has won passes to a Demi Jade concert. Cassady is to start an internship for the CEO of Chambers and Brit for the summer. Teagan gets mad at Cassady and goes to the arena where the concert is to be held with both tickets on her. Gage was a singer and played the guitar , he was the warm up act before the concert. Gage comes to the table Cassady is at and agrees to have a drink . Cassady was drunk and left with Gage but he would not take advantage of her in that state.

I loved this story a guy who has morals and did not take advantage of someone who is drunk who is throwing herself at him [ is there still such men ]. I loved the characters in this story especially Cassady and all the twists and turns she goes through to try to heal from Jason’s death and be her own person. Also Gage and how really sweet he was. I recommend.

I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

Release: Davlova: Book One (Volume 1)
Release: Davlova: Book One (Volume 1) - A.M. Sexton This is a difficult book for me to review. This a complete departure from the author's normal writing style. Very gritty, violent, and there's not a happy ending in sight. No hearts and flowers either. Did I like it? Yes. Would I read it again. Maybe??? This book won't be for everyone.

Release: Davlova: Book One (Volume 1)
Release: Davlova: Book One (Volume 1) - A.M. Sexton A.M. Sexton’s Release is RIVETING. You know how people describe books as page-turners? Or, claim “I couldn’t put it down!”? That was this book for me. It was in equal turns beautiful and disturbing – and, I could NOT put it down.

A dystopian tale set in the fictional city-state of Davlova, Release is extremely raw and dark. Our protagonist, Misha, is a pick-pocket who is tasked by his clan leader to become the whore of one of the noble pureborn who run the city, in order to spy on him and bring information back to the trenches that would help fuel the revolution that is brewing beyond the Upper City.

Misha’s mark is Miguel Donato, one of the most powerful men in Davlova, who has many secrets, as well as an overpowering violent streak. Misha soon learns to anticipate – and sometimes diffuse – Donato’s moods, and identifies with him separately as either Donato, the terrifying and abusive man he is meant to betray, or Miguel, the kinder half of his master.

The thing that made this book VERY difficult to read at times, is obviously the abuse that Donato inflicts on both Misha and Ayo, a sex slave Misha meets while at Donato’s house. The abuse escalates as the story progresses – and Donato’s place in the governing of the city becomes more stressful – and Misha finds himself hating the man that he has also grown to love. The author does a fantastic job of creating this relationship in the midst of the horrifying abuse pattern, which alternately shows us both the beast, Donato, as well as the incredibly loving and tender, Miguel, who Misha finds himself hopelessly drawn to and in love with. Some of the scenes are extremely rough. There are warnings attached to the book on Amazon, and rightfully so. However, I found myself getting further and further sucked in to the story and the characters. As sort of an aside, I also found it interesting, in hindsight, that though there is a LOT of sex in this story it in no way felt superfluous or distracting. Often this amount of sex would seem over-the-top to me…but, it wasn’t here. I felt it in every way added to the character development, or moved the story along.

The world that Sexton has created here is fascinating. Her storytelling and writing are so strong, that even as I was questioning myself for enjoying the book so much, I was incapable of stopping. Some of her prose when describing Misha’s feelings and observations (as in the quote I chose above) is absolutely breathtaking. The descriptions of both the opulence and decadence of the Upper City, as well as the conditions and poverty in the trenches, are also stunning. As a leading character, Misha is likeable, feisty, extremely bright, and also incredibly sexy. Ayo is beautifully heart-breaking and fascinating, and Misha finds himself becoming increasingly drawn to and protective of him as well. The pace of the story was perfect, and the ending was thrilling – and surprising! I can’t wait for Return to come out in the fall so we can see what happened to some of the supporting cast (whose characters were also rich and very well-written), and get the conclusion of the story!

Release: Davlova: Book One (Volume 1)
Release: Davlova: Book One (Volume 1) - A.M. Sexton 4.75 Stars ~ Review by Teresa

I don’t usually ask for much from my mm fiction. I want entertainment, I want resolution and satisfaction, I want sexy times. I usually read happier HEA stories and I don’t expect deep meaningful metaphors or commentary on society and the nature of love. However, every once and a while I like delving into something darker, and when I find that commentary, and it can make me think and question without taking me out of the story, I call that a win.

That being said, Release is not for the faint of heart. The characters are flawed and living in a harsh world. I found Misha to be someone you could empathize with but his choices are hard and he is hurt repeatedly. Donato is an evil, sadistic bastard who is easy to hate and yet you want to love Miguel; Ayo just breaks your heart. It was hard to read about the abuse against Misha but almost harder to see, were the times he was loved...
