This, for me, was a very unexpected, wonderful story. Not because I expected it to be bad but because I have only just began to read her books and expected something very different. Although this story is an apocalyptic urban fantasy, it can just as easily be a story of mans folly in it's ignorance of what we are doing to our environment and what steps we might have to take to survive. The couple in this story, Lara and Trevor, have been together for many years and have accepted their individual quirks. Lara begins having an unsettling dream that appears to be occurring to others as well; she's also in danger from a patient in her psychotherapy practice. Trevor has hidden secrets from his past and finally is able to tell Lara. Meanwhile his feelings that soon things will change drastically not only for them but for mankind convinces Lara as well. Trouble is brewing and Lara must learn quickly the extent of her abilities to survive what is coming as well as protect herself and Trevor from her patients actions. So what will she learn about herself and her abilities? Will Trevor be able to move forward once he tells Lara what he's been keeping from her? Can they survive the madman as well as societies growing downfall. This is a great story of the steps they must take to survive both as well as mystical dangers. I can't wait to read what happens next, will they survive the shortage of basic necessities as well as the evil that is coming; will their new found abilities and knowledge help them? I recommend this to any who love reading the genre as well those who fear for the future.
