Starting with the renowned Book of the Dun Cow, Wangerin's writing career has encompassed most every genre: fiction, essay, short story, children's story, meditation, and biblical exposition. His writing voice is immediately recognizable, and his fans number in the millions. The author of over forty books, Wangerin has won the National Book Award, New York Times Best Children's Book of the Year Award, and several Gold Medallions, including best-fiction awards for both The Book of God and Paul: A Novel. The use of animals as stand in for humans, as allegorical devices, has a long history. This book is another entry into that field. It is nothing like Watership Down, which is a hero quest for rabbits, but instead in more of the tradition of Aesop or the medieval tales featuring Reynard. ...

this excellent book is well researched and written. the author brings to life one of the greatest apostles who ever lived and whose impact on Christianity still continues to be felt to this day.

Paul isn't any more likeable here than he is in the New Testament. I liked this a lot, it made me want to be the world's foremost scholar of Bible fan fic until forty seconds ago when I googled "bible fan fic".
