Viking Tales is about the Viking Halfdan and his newborn son, Harald. It follows the life of Harald from infancy to his crowning as King of Norway. It examines Vikings' enthusiasm for adventure and discovering new lands. The stories describes them setting forth from Norway and sailing westward across the Atlantic, island-hopping, using the Orkneys and Shetlands, Faeroes, Iceland, and Greenland all the way to America. They are eager to escape their crowded homeland and seek vast fortunes and renowned. Discoveries are made by accident, when their ships are driven by the wind into unknown ports, resulting in landings and settlements in Iceland, Greenland, and America.
The legends of these great men were passed down from generation to generation, while families sat around their fires on bitterly cold winter nights sharpening their weapons, playing harps, and working with wool.
