This was a fantastic book. Clarke was practically a poet in his descriptions; I can see why it's remained so popular.I had seen the movie before reading the book on advice from a friend, and while I wish I hadn't because of the confusion some of the scenes caused me, the book did fill in the blanks ...

2001 belongs in that now defunct category of science fiction that embraced the genre as a tool for science education and communication. In many ways it reads just like Contact using a speculative first contact scenario to do some factually grounded rumination and at the same time explore basic conce...

I found this more of a compliment to the film rather than stand alone, interesting concepts and loved the fact when Dr Heywood Floyd is travelling to the moon he's basically sitting with an ipad, way ahead of it's time...

I haven't even seen this movie yet, I can't tell if the much-vaunted imagery of the film would compensate for the long tedium of space travel. I can't see how the movie helps you get into Bowman's head, his thoughts, and the narrator's hum, essentially being the only meat for the bulk of the book. I...

I put off reading this for a long time because I assumed it was just a novelization of the movie. I should have had more faith in Arthur Clarke. If you prefer 2001 as in explicable acid trip, then stick with the movie. If you like your Science Fiction to makes sense, then read the novel.

I just can't get going with this one, after my third false start I am giving up.

I'm really surprised at how much I liked this book. I prefer historical fiction to science fiction, but I really enjoyed this.
