As they arrive a huge boulder drops in front of the Duke followed by a plummeting body. This assassination attempt on the Dukes life is thwarted by a young man, Niccolo da Pavia, orphaned at birth and living in the Monastery. The young man is rewarded with an offer to become a member of the Duke’s court, his dream of experiencing a world outside the monastery is realized.Leonardo da Vinci is artist-in-residence in the Milan Court of Duke Ludovico. Niccolo’s veracious curiosity leads him Leonardo’s tower workrooms and they form a strong bond.The year is 1498 and Milan is preparing for an invasion from the French and Venetian armies.In an attempt to distract from the impending war, lavish celebrations and entertainments are planned. But a series of unexplained deaths in the castle sends shock waves through the court. Twenty-seven bodies are found, each killed in a different way.As the bodies are discovered brutally murdered they are sent to Leonardo’s tower where he performs autopsies to determine the cause of death. What they discover exposes corruption, cover-ups and abuse of power that poses a threat to the Duke far greater than the invading armies.
