Enthralling read! Especially the last half of the book. Witches, Vampires, and daemons coexist and even work together for the same end. These characters were pretty interesting and well thought out too. For the most part anyway... there was one part in the book that totally conflicted everything you...
A little drawn out and repetitive, could have used a heavier handed editor - 600 pages was far longer than it needed to be to tell part one of this story. I also didn't expect so much romance, but to be fair I can just about always do with less romance. It's about 80% romance, 10% magic, 10% history...
1.5 stars The author seems like a very intelligent woman and the ideas in itself are nice (Darwin's evolution theory explaining vampires is very interesting), but my god, the dialogues were just excruciatingly painful. The love story was even worse, if possible. Sadly, this covered about 90% of the...
I don't remember how I got my hands on this trilogy, but I am glad that I did!The storyMeet Diana. A witch and a historian.Well not that kind of witch because you see when Diana was young she lost her parents and decided that she didn't want to do anything with magic. So she continues living her nor...
Loved the world, the magic, the history. Didn't like the Love element. I'm surprised I gave it a four considering I didn't like such a big part of the book. I guess it really shows the strenght of the writing and worldbuilding that I still liked it so much.
So, this book hit so many of my personal buttons, that I am able to forgive it the whole "vampire romance" aspect, which does basically nothing for me. Oxford - check. Witches - check. Academia - check. I absolutely love books written about academia, if that academia includes the dreaming spires...
Where to begin? Firstly, I'll disclose that I nearly left this book to languish in the depths of my TBR. When it first came out, I was charmed by the idea of an adult fiction book that housed witches, vampires and demons within its pages. As my TBR grew though, and the trilogy came to an end, I felt...
The first couple of chapters were pretty good and I was excited for what seemed to be a promising witch book. I want to say nothing happened but that's not entirely true, stuff did happen but it wasn't engaging or there was unnecessary filler between the interesting stuff. I really didn't enjoy ...
I found this book on one of my many trips to Barnes and Noble and was surprised later to find quite a few negative reviews about it. I almost didn't read it, because of the comparisons to this story being an adult version of Twilight. Well, I'm glad I didn't listen and read it anyway. The geek in me...
