One summer, when I was on bedrest during my third pregnancy, three of my girlfriends got together and sent me a care package of books, magazines, and other fun things. One of the books, to my delight, was Dave Eggers' A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, a 2001 Pulitzer Prize Finalist, which I...

Started out great. Interesting style, dark, paranoid and disturbing at times, funny and thought provoking at other times. Unfortunately, the book just kept on going. And going. The story lost all interest and became a bit "out there", the characters got annoying, the rants became more and more over ...

how to describe reading this? he tells this pretty heartbreaking story (not a surprise if you believed the title) in a way that really belies the emotion behind it. to me, that made it a bit of a weird read, to see how intentionally he avoided the underlying stuff, while talking about everything e...

Wow, is this polarizing or what? lol. Well, he warns you right from the beginning how full of shit he is (except with fancier vocabulary) so I don't really see the reason for the complaints. With that said, though, I can understand why someone wouldn't like the book.Did I think it was all beautiful ...

Quite an exhausting read! It's the story of a twenty something budding writer who raises his much younger brother when both parents die in quick succession. He juggles the responsibilities of parenthood with the irresponsibilities of youth, balances grief with the desire for fun as he and 'Topher gr...

Just couldn't get interested in this story - seemed self indulgent, but then again a lot of respected friends loved this book.
