I have like all of Tessa Dare's Spindle Cove books so far, and I enjoyed this one, too, but not as well as the previous two. Kate is an endearing heroine; despite a childhood of deprivation in an orphanage, and despite her fears that she will never find love or family because of her lack of social s...

Dare is mining deep in the "Lady loves a Laborer" vein. Thorne's reticence and Kate's situation didn't hit me as much as The Lady and the Blacksmith (in either titilation or general character attachment), but it was a cute book overall.

This historical romance was okay. The plot was pretty good but the action during the first half moved kind of slow and I skimmed a lot. The ending was entertaining but too much emotional fluctuation. Orphan Kate feels all alone when she misses her ride then Corporal Thorne comes to her rescue.

So now I have read volu...

This one was a little bit harder for me to get into than the last one. Kate is a wonderful heroine and I warmed up to her right away. Despite her circumstances, which could have easily led to bitterness, she's warm & loving without being a sap. Thorne was harder to get to know, even when in his P...
