I enjoyed the book, however I found the murder a lot easier to work out from early on the book and this did dim my enjoy slightly as I like to be really surprised at the end.
I skimmed. Darker than my distant memories of #1 (this is #2), largely because of serial murder and creepy spoiler, and not quite in line with the complexities #1 set up.
I bounced off the first October Daye book because I found the character too...beat-down? I finally gave the second book a try because so many people I know love the series, and I did find this one worked better for me. Toby is more sure-footed, at lesst in the beginning. Tonally I found a strong si...
2.5 stars This was just slow, slow, slow. On the bright side I really like Toby so I'll just keep on going and chalk this one up to series development? Book 3 is in my near future and here's hoping the plot is more peppy than this one! :)
Gah, this series!! I can't stop reading it, and I love the world, but Toby, dude, your PI skills are prolly the reason you live in such a bad apartment. There were several times I just wanted to bash her over the head with the nearest blunt object, she was being so dense. I blame her for at least th...
Oh, I'll just pick this book up to have something to read while I eat dinner! SIX HOURS LATER: Welp, I guess I finished the book.Yes, this book telegraphed its twists from miles away. I figured out what was up with Alex and Terrie the moment Terrie showed up, and I was pretty sure I knew how the mur...
*sigh* - I want to like this series. I really do... but I don't. Love the premise. I'm familiar with the Bay Area so it's nice to read a book set here. In this book we take a trip with Toby and her liege's foster Quentin, to the city of Fremont to check-up on his niece. There we meet January and...
I liked book 2 better than the first one. It is my understanding that the series improves greatly after book 3. Sylvester hands over to Toby an easy babysitting job. Once again nothing is what it seems, from a simple murder investigation springs into a frantic chase to keep people alive. I loved tha...
It was great to be back with Toby Daye and her fabulous Fae world in A LOCAL HABITATION. This time the plot was very much a whodunnit storyline that kept me guessing right until the end.The opening scene features a very tipsy October, and a chance encounter with Tybalt, King of Cats, whose character...
