Interesting idea but it failed to really grab me.

I listened to the CD version of this book. The performance was outstanding. I've looked at the printed version, and the words just lay there (lie there?) on the page. I doubt I would have liked it as much if I'd read it. This book just begs to be "performed" in the voices of the characters. The b...

I loved the previous Hornby's that I read but this tale of strangers who meet at a popular suicide spot in London just meandered around with pretty much no point though there were some extremely funny bits which kept me going to the end.

Laugh out loud funny. The strength of the 3 different narrators - Scott Brick, Simon Vance and Kate Reading made this a fantastic listen!

3.5 starsA little summary: This book is about 4 people who met in New Year's Eve when all of them are trying to commit suicide. They ended up being a very strange, weird, company of friends. It is funny how a group suicide theme can be well, funny. But it is not just funny, it is contemplative as we...

An interesting story about four people who meet after they try to kill themselves by jumping from the same building. They become a "gang" and manage to keep from committing suicide, even if they don't come to realize their faults or problems as clearly as they could. An odd story but pretty good.

Four strangers run into each other, trying to commit suicide at the same place. That's the set up. Like all of Hornby's fiction, the book is really about the need for human connection, about creating a family if you don't happen to have one (or, if the one you have is inadequate). It reminds me o...

You've decided to kill yourself, right? So you make your way up on to the roof of a tower block intending to throw yourself off - but it's New Year's Eve, so it's like Piccadilly Circus up there. What do you do? What is the etiquette in a situation like that? Who jumps first? Should they toss for it...

Good book, but not his best by a long way. I liked the idea of "Cosmic Tony Blair"
