Room With a View is a delightful light comedy of Edwardian manners. Yet, I think I like Forster better when he is mysterious and cynical such as in A Passage to India. Three and a half stars.

Forster was too cute is places. His characters' conversations were hard to follow because you couldn't tell who was speaking. Some events were hard to comprehend as to what was happening or who the characters were. Did not enjoy it near as much as Where Angels Fear to Tread.

I was surprised at how pleasant this book was to read. It was refreshing considering how much I disliked Pride and Prejudice, which initially this book seemed to resemble. Luckily, this book had likable characters, intelligence, and plenty of wit.

Eh gads - a time when unbecoming behavior was such a big deal. A slowly unfolding story of a young woman, Lucy Honeychurch, traveling through Italy (with a chaperone, of course) who encounters an unconventional and socially unacceptable father and son. The pair, Mr. Emerson and George, appeal to Luc...

I like EM Forster A LOT, Maurice is a favorite. This book is the de riguer critiquie of English society and the repressive ridiculousness of it all.Lucy is touring Italy accompanied by incredible uptight cousin/chaperone Charlotte. Lucy explores Italy and her feelings about love and herself and meet...

Lucy stayed in a room with a view. Unconciously she was breaking out from the confines of her upbringing and society's conventionality. She stumbled, took a step forward and ten behind, she doubt herself and her opinion, she made a muddle of her situation. "Beware of muddle," warned kindly old Mr. E...

A great Edwardian romantic comedy exploring the different steps of the social ladder. Taking place, first, in a pension in Italy and later in Surrey, England.Lucy Honeychurch is on vacation in Florence with her cousin. Staying in an Italian pension, they come across a row of interesting characters. ...

I did enjoy this one, but I saw the movie first and have to admit to liking it better. It isn't really a fair contest, because Helena Bonham Carter and Maggie Smith are probably my two very favorite actresses and I think they brought more to the character development then Forster did.The plot and pl...

I thought the book lacks description, especially in the beginning. How are we supposed to know the difference in Charlotte & Lucy's ages? At first I thought they were only a few years apart but as I read further it seemed Charlotte's at least 20, or maybe even 30 years older. Why is George not descr...
