I read this book a very long time ago so my memory of it is very hazy. However, it is unlikely that I will read it again therefore I will write a brief commentary on it. Piers Anthony was one of the more popular authors of young adult fantasy and science-fiction back in the 80's and I suspect that h...

Anthony has some strongly sexist themes running throughout this series. I read this before I really picked up on them, so I have some problematic fondness for it.

This was a re-read. I originally read it around 1980. I remembered it being a lot of fun and read about 6 more in the series. After that, they started to feel like they were factory manufactured. I read this one while stationed in Germany. Somehow the proximity of castles made the story even funnier. Laughed alot.

None of the characters were complex but she was particularly bad. I did like the puns and there were funny mome...

Here's a funny idea: there's this girl, see, and part of the time she's really ugly, but brilliant, and party of the time she's gorgeous, but stupid, and part of the time she's average in looks and brains. Hilarious premise, isn't it? Now add puns. For what it's worth, I think Anthony gets less horri...

Piers Anthony was a guilty pleasure in my youth. Actually, I maintain Anthony is capable of writing 2-3 good novels per series; then they inevitably become repetitive drivel, and nowhere is this more apparent than the Xanth series. The first few books were light-hearted, fun fantasy, but eventually ...
