I listened to the audiobook version, read by Jaycee Dugard, over a period of a few days and was completely enthralled by her very sad, candid, harrowing story of being held captive for 18 years by a man that kidnapped her when she was just 11 years old.Jaycee is an incredibly brave, bright, optimist...
What an amazing story. The first half is hard to even read so I can't fathom how that little girl survived, but survive she did! This is an example of how strong individuals can be and it also shows how much a person is capable of healing from.
This book was defenitely a theraputic exercise for Jaycee. I cannot believe the abuse she endured and still came out with such a positive, optimistic outlook which is truly inspirational. At times the book made me absolutely sick to my stomach to the point at that I wasn't sure if I could read on......
The book was shocking and very disturbing and I recognize that the Author is writing about her tragic past but I just didn't like the disjointed writing style. I didn't feel as much for the things Jaycee went through because it was hard to follow. I'm in awe that she survived the ordeal and is willi...
Jaycee was kidnapped when she was eleven years old and held captive for eighteen years. When you read about what goes on during those years you'll be disgusted, you'll be angry, and you will be sad. When she becomes free, you will be extremely happy. I wish her nothing but the best.
I went into this book with low expectations after reading a couple of reviews online. It is an interesting story and perspective on what the author went through during her 18 years in captivity, but it is written in the voice of an 11 year old. She points out at one point in the book that she had ...
I remember when I was growing up (being a few years younger than the author) and hearing about the story of her disappearance. I saw television shows that discussed it, saw her parents on television. And I was watching the news when she was discovered in Concord, California, just a mere twenty min...
Let's be honest- this was more of a therapeutic assignment rather than anything else. Initially I was interested in reading this because I wanted to know the 'complete' story. Unfortunately I felt that what I read I had read before in magazine articles. There was little new information. I felt like ...
Ummmmmm. I borrowed this one from a co-worker. I am returning it unfinished. I can't do it. I tried. It is so graphic that it almost made me physically ill. I cannot remember the last time when I folded on a book because it turned me ill. I have met my match. I am horrified at what the woman...
