The story if not directly retold from an Akan or Ashanti/Asante folktale is inspired by characters and plots from those traditions, so it's not a mishmash of "African" elements or a fake "...

My first experience with Anansi in book form, I can't even describe how much I love this story and the sentimental attachment I have to it.P.S. I miss you Eshu Bumpus, you are the greatest storyteller that ever lived! I hope you know what a difference you made in the lives of so many.
