I've read so many mixed reviews about David Foster Wallace. I honestly didn't know what to expect, other than footnotes. I really enjoyed this collection. I skipped one of the essays, but found the others to be well worth reading. He lays himself so bare.

Of the seven essays that comprise this collection, two of them are must-reads and freely available from Harper's website (don't bother with the other five). Very, very funny. His essay about attending the Illinois State Fair, in particular, is spot on. Likewise the one about his vacation on a cruise ship is perfectly conceived.
