The magic presented on Earthsea is not something learned by uttering simple words. Magic is not a force the characters can use at their disposal.

As strange as this may seem, I sought out a book by Ursula K. LeGuin because of one of those crazy online quizzes--this one in particular was supposed to determine which fantasy author's works I most "identified with." My result was Ursula K. LeGuin and I'm embarrassed to admit that I had never even...

I picked this book up because it was mentioned in the Modern Scholar lectures on Fantasy fiction (great lectures!). I enjoyed the story, but after listening to Tolkien recently, it didn't quite compare. Still, it's a great story that can be enjoyed by children and adults. What makes this a wonder...

A good story no doubt, but the telling was a little dry and dusty for my liking. Off to the second book, though.

She obviously knows and cares for each of them. She LOVES her geography. Now, I like geography. I've spent hours poring o...

I liked it a lot! The first half is definitely the best part--I wanted to read about the wizard school forever.

A very interesting and different fantasy book.I first realised half-way through the book that it was written in 1967 (my mum was only 4 years at that time!). So I think you could easily say that it is very controversial. The story is about Ged, who, in a very young age, finds out that he is a wizard....
