"A Word on Radio" is an academic look at the latest trends and methodologies created by both Chris Jordan and other leading contributors in the radio industry. "A Word on Radio" started as a culmination of my years in the industry, coupled with my passion for teaching the next generation in radio broadcasting. By the time I had started writing - I had experienced a tumultuous journey in my broadcasting career - having started as early as 21 years old and entered an industry I was never formally trained in, I bounced around the departmental structure of the radio landscape looking to learn more. Besides working on all platforms within our medium, I held roles in presenting, production, sound engineering, voice over talent, talent management, and now consulting. It was time to contribute to the industry in a different way, and so "A Word on Radio" was created.
The book includes a testimony to the following areas:
- Basics of Radio Broadcasting
- Building your On-Air Personality
- News and Sports Broadcasting
- Content and Sound Production/Show Development
- Radio Intelligence
Academically, the content is sound and has been used in training students at tertiary level through South Africa.
One of my main objectives was to include my own "tried-and-tested" methodologies and constructs that assist and structure new approaches to making good radio across the globe. These include methodologies like C.A.S, S.P.I.N., A.I.R. and P.L.A.N.
