The second book in the Codex Alera series was a true joy to read. I thought it started off a bit slower than the first book, but I wasn't disappointed by any means. The action really picked up about half-way through. The first half is mainly concerned with politics and intrigue. I guess I'm just not...
Another page turner from Jim Butcher. This one's got a little of everything. Tavi is at the Academy and his story is full of palace intrigue with a little bit coming of age, Bernard and Amara are involved in bigger battle with a creepy new enemy and Isana is also caught up in a world of intrigue a...
If I have to hear the narrator say "said quietly" one more time I will scream loudly. Aren't there any other ways of describing someone speaking softly?
There's really nothing wrong with this book, but I don't think I'll continue with the next book. It simply didn't hold me, and I don't think I'm interested enough in the characters or story to keep reading. When it comes to Jim Butcher, I prefer his Dresden Files series.
I love these stories but the various fight and battle scenes go on and on and on...way too long for me. I imagine they appeal to the young male audience but I skim them, at best.Still, they are like the Dresden Files in that one is in an entirely new and interesting universe from which one really do...
Please excuse the name spelling! I listened to the audio of this.Great book two! This one picks up two years after the first book ended. Which is great, because Tavi got to grow up a bit without us watching. He's basically the same, only he has now been a page to Gaius and lived in the capital, ...
Yeah it took me a while to read this book. I admit I started it in November, as I was starting NaNoWriMo (and if any of you have ever taken part in that month long literary self flagellation then you will know that the last thing most people want to do in that month is read lol). As such, effectivel...
As seen on Stumptown Books.Although this installment was easier for me to read than Furies of Calderon (my groans were cut down by about a third, I'd say), I liked this second novel no more than the first one. It has been two years since the events of Furies, and we're plopped right back into the a...
Usually for books in a series, I listen to just one in the series. That way I can sample the author and the series and get an idea which of our customers would really enjoy the book. But Academ's Fury is the 2nd book in the Codex Alera series that I've listened to in just a few months. I found my...
