Well, where to start? I’ll begin by saying that I can’t recall it ever taking me as long to read a book (2 weeks exactly) as it took me to read Across the Universe. However, the fact I persevered meant it held my intrigue. On top of that is the fact that, even when I put the book down for a few days...
This was so very much a case of "OH JUST END THE BOOK ALREADY. OR, YOU KNOW, DO SOMETHING not sexually related. OR MAKE ME CARE." But no. I just slogged my way through, completely indifferent and trying to avoid the digustingly semi-graphic sexy times. And what bothered me about those is that I und...
I can tell you that overall it was quite an engaging read. I pretty much devoured it in 24 hours, which is hard to do for a book well over 400 pages and you know, work and stuff. I loved, loved, LOVED this book. . . even though I thought the Season was mentioned a bit too much (and shown VERY graphically . . . thank god I wasn't eating . . .), I think that just added realism into the story.
I'd give this a solid 3.5 stars. I felt as though the beginning was definitely slow. There would be times when I would get into the story and then my interest would wane. I thought the best part of the book was the last third.
