I will describe "Agnes Grey" by Anne Brontë with the help of three s's; simple, sweet and subtle. The book is simple because of its very straightforward plot line. One would almost expect any novel with the notorious Brontë-name on the frontcover to contain some objects of mystic or riddles. But no,...

I actually didn't enjoy this so much this time round as I did when I first read it. I still liked it but there were some things that bothered me about it.Full review to come.
My sodding goodreads replacement (maybe)
Would it be fair to call the romance aspect of a book "successful" if the only reason I felt so invested in it is because it provided a gentle slope (at most!) in an otherwise flat-line of a story? At any rate, flat-line or not, I still managed to enjoy the story a whole lot. It shouldn't have surpr...

This was a Librovox recording that was ok. I thought that the voice of Agnes was a bit whiny. This matched the first half of the book which was Agnes's narrative about the awful students in her care. I sympathized with her a bit and thought that not only the students but parents were absolutely awfu...

Anne Bronte was always the one of the three surviving Bronte girls who was considered the least talented (her sister Charlotte certainly thought so), and this, her first novel, didn't hit the mark with me. It's too bland for my tastes. However, I do wonder if I would have thought so if I hadn't read...

Agnes Grey contains equally fine writing to both Emily's and Charlotte's work with a storyline that fits in between Jane Eyre and Wuthering Height in terms of likeability. It is, like Jane Eyre, the tale of a governess. Yet, unlike Jane Eyre, Agnes Grey focuses on the problems faced by a governess i...

I'd like, if I may, to start with a link to a webcomic that, having read most of the work of the Bronte sisters, I find utterly hilarious:Dude Watchin' with the BrontesI realize that this cartoon is more pertinent to The Tenant of Wildfell Hall than to Agnes Grey, but I discovered the comic after I ...

Anne Bronte is def. not my favorite Bronte sister from a writing perspective. I found her books to not have the depth or be as gothic as those of her sisters. Agnes Grey is no different. I think if I had to choose one of her books though, I would do The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
