Writing a truly engaging early reader has got to be the one of the hardest jobs there is. There's a reason why everyone is still so impressed with Dr Seuss. So, if you know someone who is starting to learn to read, do the child and yourself a huge favor and get these Bink and Gollie books. Here we h...

"A donut, a duck, and a talent without applause." Two girls with an undeniable destiny visit the state fair with hilarious results. Join Bink and Gollie on their next adventure. Illustrator Tony Fucile is in top form with this second installment of Bink & Gollie. Don't miss it.

Easy reader in style, not in vocabulary -- but that is often worked into the story. A great book to read with your beginning reader (or to challenge one!). Mostly black and white illustrations, Bink, Gollie, and the object of focus in color.

Read this one for LIBR 2410, but didn't include it in my reading diary, since I liked The Higher Power of Lucky more.

The cover and title led me to think this story would be something different than what it really is. I expected a sentimental story about how much a girl loves her puppy. Instead I experienced a sweet list of ways that a dog will protect the castle (because the girl lives there). The list begins wi...

Elizabeth Bird wrote a very thoughtful and considered review. I just loved it. Love Fucile's illustrations which add tremendously to the text. Love the good friends who aren't the same, but can compromise. Just so cute.We went to see DiCamillo at the Regulator bookstore yesterday. If you get a ...

This book took less time to read than a novel-in-verse would, yet it has a similar sort of poetic style (sort of), which I would expect from a book written by an accomplished adult author. (The same was true for McGhee's YA book "All Rivers Flow to the Sea," but I found that book less engaging.) You...
