I did not finish this book. I got into 10 pages and within those ten pages, the writing sounded like some really bad naruto fan fiction, where they would be a Japanese word dropped every paragraph or so. CRINGE. Please no.

I've been looking forward to this book for over a year. Not looking forward like 'hey, that book sounds nice', add it and then forget about it. No, I mean looking forward in the 'pre-order a copy a year before its publication, stalk the book's pages for updates and reviews and checking for ways to g...

"I'm the shadow lurking around the corner. I'm the youkai demon dragging them screaming into the night." This was exactly what I needed -- a YA novel set in Shizuoka, Japan. Now I was a little miffed that the protagonist was American (and a whiny one at that), but I'll let it slide.Amanda Sun took e...

Ink has quite possibly just claimed the notch at the top of my favourite books read so far year. Unique, inspiring, culturally educational, sometimes a little dark yet at the same time truly beautiful, Ink was an absolute pleasure to read. Sure, it had an abundance of POV breaches. In fact, this is ...

3.5/5OVERALL IMPRESSION: I had some trouble connecting with/concentrating on the story because of the Japanese words mixed in. There's a glossary at the back of the book which helps, but it's a little annoying having to flip to the back and search for the word every couple of pages -- I would have l...

First off, I would like to start off by saying that I am in LOVE with this cover – it’s absolutely stunning. I love how they’ve only switched the ink drawings around for the UK and US covers, it’s really clever. The entire book is gorgeous from front to back, and inside it also has some beautiful il...

The GoodJapan. This novel's big selling point is Sun's ability to create a true sense of place. As you read, you are totally immersed in Japanese culture, language, and customs. I liked how Japanese words were scattered throughout the story, leaving the reader to figure out the meaning based off o...
