Well this took me an unnecessary length of time to complete. I don't know why exactly, the book just didn't at any point have me too eager to pick it back up again. I must compliment Neil Gaiman's writing though, it is very likely the best I've ever seen. The way he fuses each sentence together, the...

Having read two other Gaiman books, American Gods and Neverwhere, I have to say I think this may be my favourite yet! American Gods didn't really do it for me, nothing much seemed to actually HAPPEN (all too abstract for me I think), but this was just brilliant. A nice blend of humour and action tha...

Neil Gaiman is a fine storyteller. I'm just starting to think his repertoire of stories is very small. To be clear, I liked Anansi Boys (hence the 4-star rating). It's entertaining all the way through. It's clever, it's funny, it draws on a lot of tales mythology buffs will geek out over, and for any...

I got as far as page 40 before I lost the book at the Charleston, SC airport. Will continue as soon as I pick up a new copy.

I'm upgrading my rating from 3 to 4, and it's solely due to the fact that this time, I'm listening to it on audio. The audio is read by the amazing and talented Lenny Henry. Henry captures all the nuances of the dialogue, and makes Gaiman's attempts at getting the dialect (e.g., the repeated use o...

I'm agree with Magda, it's a good book but American Gods set very high standards

I did it! And I am so glad I stuck with it. The second half of the book really picked up the pace, and I found myself caught in Gaiman's spell. It almost felt like a less epic but more "homey" and personal American Gods journey. Refreshing change. Will review later.

I've come to realise that I will never like Neil Gaiman's works. I have slowly and agonizingly worked my way through two of his books and I'm yet to be astounded. Unfortunately, that maybe because I'm too busy trying to compare him to Douglas Adams in my head. Gaiman is just not funny. He should rea...
