Many people are turned off by an overly long book. For me, I hate to say bye to characters I read about. Too bad all books aren't 5000 pages and have series of twelve or more. (I see every author on the planet cringing lol.)As many reviewers have stated before me, Tolstoy is an art. Full Review at...

My goal was to read this book in two weeks, and I managed it, to the day exactly. Well, I ambitiously set out to read this book, knowing nothing about the story, really, and found it fairly interesting. There were some chapters that I started to skim a bit, the ones dealing with politics and religio...

I finally finished this book after a freaking month and a half. I can't believe it, it's the longest I've ever spent reading a leisure book. But! I am glad I read it.This book reads a little like a 18th century soap, filled with drama about affairs and love interests and stealing people's boyfriends...

I give up. This book and I aren't meant to be friends. It's sitting at the top of my pile, mocking me. I can't pick it up. I can't finish it. Me and the Russians just don't mix.

A Scottish-Canadian Blethering On About Books
Anna Karenina is one of those books one "knows" through cultural reference; reading it is quite another matter. This is the first Tolstoy I have read since my childhood, and so it is the first Tolstoy I have really appreciated. I won't get into detailed criticism here - my memory isn't that good (I ...

Good book. I couldn't help but think how some of this would have played out today. The divorce would have been much easier to get. There might not have been some of the shame heaped on Anna as there was back then. The ending left me a little disappointed. It was mostly about Levin and his philisophi...

I've only read about a fifth of the book, but I love it. I really like the way it's written and the insight it gives into the characters (omniscient narrator) even if I don't like the characters that much (for now, at least).
