This was a very interesting take on the Cinderella story. I loved the way Malinda Lo built the Kingdom and I like the characterization and detail of (most) of the characters. That being said, Ash felt a little flat. Not sure if I completely missed it or what but I have no idea what color hair she po...

I rarely use the word hauntingly, but I would describe this story as hauntingly beautiful. It seemed to flow off the page and into my head, creating a lush world while allowing for my imagination to fill in the gaps. I adored the fragile relationships that Ash formed with the fairy and the huntress....

I love fairy tales that twist the story on their head. So why did it take me so long to read this retelling of Cinderella? I don't know. This was a lush rich story that will resonate with me a long long time.

I have had this one on my To-Read radar for a while because I was intrigued by a lesbian Cinderella retelling. So, now I've re-read it, and I have to say I'm a bit - no, more than a bit - disappointed with it. This whole book just felt confused. There are likely spoilers below. Read at your own ris...

A gender-flipped retelling of Cinderella. The premise sounds somewhat promising but the writing is not good enough IMHO and I can't care less about the characters. The ending is nice so is the older cover art:. I think I like Malinda Lo as a blogger/book reviewer more than a novelist.

I believe this story was my first fairy tale retelling and if other retellings are good like this one... :) Also this is my second female/female read ever. I much better prefer male/male stories but as I’ve discovered am fine reading also lesbian stories. The most important after all is the quality ...

I really wanted to love this book, but I just didn't. The idea was intriguing, the characters were pretty cool, but I just couldn't get into it. It earns a disappointed shrug from me, but that's probably only because lots of people were telling me how awesome it was, and I expected more than I got...

This is really a lovely story. Fairy stories are not only a big part of the book, the book itself reads like a fairy tale. It is loosely based on the story of Cinderella, but Lo doesn't feel the need to include every last detail of the basic story, so the result is something that feels very natural ...

This is actually a reread for me. I received my own shiny cover of “Ash” as a gift from a lovely friend and was heartily looking forward to seeing how well it stood up the second time round. Most commonly referred to as the ‘lesbian Cinderella’, the book does retain the basic structure of arguably t...

I read this a long time ago. It is ok, at times I felt lost and didn't know where the story was heading. I felt it was overly long winded at times. It's an ok book, nothing about it I can remember fondly.
