3.5The beginning of this book reads pretty slowly as the world is built. The world is complex and dark, which I loved, but listening to the audiobook when I was tired meant that I didn't always pay attention, and many times I opted to listen to the radio when I was too tired to pay attention to the...

I have been warned about this book many times—that it wasn’t what you would expect it to be, that though the synopsis is well worded, it the story doesn’t hold well up to its promise. I, of course, am a very curious fellow, and ignored all the warnings around me—I’m often hated by my mother for that...

This review can also be found on Reading Between ClassesCover Impressions: This cover screams Dystopia. The ruined buildings and rising waters do an excellent job of introducing the reader to the ruined world that Jo Treggiari has created for her characters. I was a little disappointed at the por...

I thought Lucy was a brave young girl. Sure, she made stupid decisions sometimes, but haven't we all? Review to come. I promise ;-)

Luc...

This book had a lot of potential but I didn’t think it lived up to it. To be fair, I’ve read a lot of dystopian books this year and many of them were really good. Because of that, this book had massive shoes to fill. The book isn’t exactly bad but it wasn’t great either. That’s partially why it took...

An interesting post-apocalyptic story. ASHES didn't manage to supplant ENCLAVE or AFTERTIME at the top of my list, but Lucy's solitary survival was vivid and memorable.

As dystopian/post-apocalyptic novels go, this one left me a little wanting. The world-building and imagery were phenomenal, but I felt that the back-story was somewhat lacking, and so the whole thing seemed a little empty. If I knew that this was part of a series, that could be explained away in f...

Ashes, Ashes is a YA dystopian that takes place in future New York. The country has been ravaged by a viral epidemic and weather related disasters, the population has been decimated and there are pockets of survivors doing the best they can to manage from day to day. Lucy, the main character, is is...
