Liar and Spy is not as good as When You Reach Me (but then, what is? Besides A Wrinkle in Time). The story feels a little sparse, but overall I enjoyed it.

An awful lot like When You Reach Me--the two feel very similar when you read them. I really liked the group of friends that Georges had in this book. I didn't really see any of the twists coming, but I would still say this book is good, not great.

This seems like a book that adults would think is really great but that kids might not be excited about. Like when "literary fiction" is deemed excellent by critics but on-the-street-readers might not be very interested in it.

Second, I don't usually read realistic fiction because in my opinion reality is too ordinary and borin...

This was such a treat, and I'm grateful to Random House for sending me a review copy. I liked this one better than When You Reach Me. I found it easier to follow and more entertaining. The message in this story is subtle, and it's just as valuable for grown-ups as it is for youngsters. What Georges ...

The kind of book I loved as a kid (E.L. Konigsburg forever!) and the kind I want to edit. Layered, smart, vulnerable.
