Holy wow! Shocking, funny, interesting, romantic and twisted. Who would have thought that a shorter book like this could have it all. I loved it! The reader did a wonderful job as well.

What a scary, weird little book, like if Chuck Palahniuk wrote for Grey's Anatomy. The kind of book that makes you think there is nothing good in the world, but says it so wonderfully that you have to pay attention. Also, I never want to go in a hospital ever, ever again. Ever.

Enjoyable read. The backbone of the book is about a young mafia kid growing up to be a MD.The party being a Catholic shit hospital intern MD is pretty good. He might have worked or at least observed what's going on in a hospital. The main theme is probably how little choice we have in life, when the ...

In Beat The Reaper, Bazell presents us with Peter Brown, a medical resident who years ago, entered into the witness protection program; as he used to be a contract killer for the mob. In exchange for his cooperation with the police some time ago, Brown was given a new life - that was until one night...

I couldn't put this one down! I used to read a lot of Robin Cook back in the day, until I got tired of them as they all seemed so similar and I don't tend to read a lot of fiction. However, this book, was fast moving and easy to read. I loved all of the arcane medical info, despite the disclaimer at ...

I devoured this book while I was lounging on the beach in Puerto Vallarta this past week.Part medical mystery part mob story. I loved every minute of it. I could never guess what would happen next and I throughly enjoyed the way Josh Bazell incorporated footnotes and interesting dialogue to engage...

Former mob hit man turned surgical intern Dr. Peter Brown is having a bad day. He is (almost) mugged on the way to work and then someone from his former life turns up at Brown's hospital. What follows is a fast-paced, bizarre, hilarious, gruesome and somewhat educational tale. It's great escapist...

OMG The only book I had trouble finishing. NOT b/c it was boring but b/c it was sooo eerily graphic, and very much in a medical manner. I had nausea and chills and kept reading even when walking. Being an MD, the author has some excellent sick (both figuratively and medically) humor. Laugh out loud...

Well, the style of this book is to be edgey. I have no problem with that in general when it works for the story, but this was just angry to be angry. I didn't see the point. I hated every character in the book, the author didn't see any reason to make anyone of them likable. I couldn't take it anymo...

I haven't laughed so much while reading a book since my latest Christopher Moore fix. What a surprise to have this be his debut novel and from a doctor, no less. I enjoyed all of the footnotes and the medical references, always into weird medical information. Even though the main character has ma...
