This book is a good followup to Leviathan. A fun story with some action in it, and a bit of pseudo-romance going on (and it's not terribly annoying, which is always a plus). Pacing was good, and just like Leviathan, I loved the afterward where the author explains where he departed from history a...

Behemoth is the second in the Leviathan Trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. This ingenious series is a mashup of alternative history, adventure, fantasy and steam punk. After loving the first book, I was worried whether or not this sequel would measure up. No disappointments here! The adventures contin...

I read this one in three days on the train and at lunch, so I can't really say I *didn't* like it. But it didn't grab me as much as the first one. The story seemed to get bogged down in too many contrived plot complications. The new characters introduced seemed flat to me. I guess I could easily sum...

Behemoth starts off pretty much where Leviathan ended: the Leviathan is making it's way to the Ottoman Empire with help from the Clanker engines. There is an uneasy truce between Alek's men and the British, but Alek and his companions are still basically prisoners. There are more adventures, German t...

Scott Westerfeld really knows how to build a world. It's been a year and a half since I read Leviathan, but I didn't have any trouble slipping into his world once more. The characters were just as believable and likable as before. This book did exactly what a second book in a series should do. It ca...

If you've seen my review for Leviathan then you know I wasn't terribly sure how I felt about the book and ended up giving three stars because of that. Well Behemoth did what the first couldn't for me and helped me decide that I bloody love this series. I had a few irritants here and there so I could...

It was awesome. This is why I wait until Book 3 of a series is almost out until I read Book 2. I cannot wait for Goliath. I will probably buy it in hardcover though. The pictures did not translate well to the Kindle.

Steampunk with an alternative history of WWI.What happens when an author takes a historical event like WWI and tweaks a few little details? Let’s just say he adds a few imaginative gadgets, contraptions, and “beasties.” What if the main characters are both orphans with secrets? Behemoth is the secon...

It's official: Scott Westerfeld is one of the best authors that has ever walked this planet! I know, I know. I sound like a fangirl... well... maybe I am... but still! I love this book with a burning passion of love! It's just amazing! The plot, the characters, the setting, the inventions: everythin...

A little something for everyone: there's steampunk mech, darwinist gene-splicing, a diverse cast, romance, action, adventure, and people really thinking about things. It's taken a long while for me to read it aloud to the kids, but we've loved every minute. For an author who routinely writes grea...
