In 1910, R.L. Baskette published a book which compiled sermons preached to and papers delivered before the delegates and guests that same year at the meeting of General Assembly in Dickson, Tennessee. The book, titled Centennial Sermons and Papers, celebrated the one hundredth birthday of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Inspired by Mr. Baskette's work, the book you now read contains a collection of sermons and papers as well. The majority of these sermons and papers, however, were not presented at the 2010 meeting of General Assembly (which was again in Dickson, Tennessee). Rather, the sermons were preached by Cumberland Presbyterians to Cumberland Presbyterians in various settings across the United States during 2010, our bicentennial year. It is my hope that this book will preserve a snapshot of what Cumberland Presbyterians were hearing from Cumberland Presbyterian pulpits during this historic year of our bicentennial.
