I was harsh to rate this only 3 stars when I finished it last night, but I was slightly annoyed by the last 100 pages or so. My inner voice was screaming "Oh get on with it" as we (yet again) go from the stands, to another room, for another long protracted discussion about a movie deal that's ultima...

3.5 Stars. Billy Lynn and the other remaining members of Bravo are American heroes after having a fierce battle with Iraqi insurgents televised on Fox News by an embedded news crew. After a quick patch job on their wounds and receiving their various Purple Hearts and Silver Stars, Bravo Squad has ...

Oh, I waited too long to review this. I don't remember why I didn't like Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk more . . . it's an interesting look into the mind of a young soldier, taking place during a football game (Billy Lynn and the rest of the Bravo company, Iraq War heroes, are being honored during ...

It is better than average, really, but only becaus...

I'm *thisclose* to giving it 5 stars. So this is more like 4.5. Maybe it's the military wife in me, but there were a handful of sentences that reduced me to tears. Single sentences that hit me out of nowhere.

Funny, a bit sad, super smart - Fountain deconstructs America as we were in approx. 2005 (and as we still rather are...) from the point of view of a kid, a boy really, who had to grow up faster than he should've. It's the best book about the War, about the Bush years, about all of that that I've re...

Not so much a novel of the Iraq War as a novel of soldiers attempting to understand the country they've enlisted to protect. There are comparisons drawn between Americans' commitment to their pastimes and their disinterest in the world around them, and Fountain's book, while making no real statement...

I'm not sure how to review this book without gushing and thus losing the chance to convince people to read this novel. So, know my goal is to encourage people to read this book; I will not summarize plot. I will try to contextualize why I think this book is worth your time.Perhaps it's just one of t...
