During the year 2000, Allan Safarik, like many writers before him, found sanctuary at the writing refuge at Severin Hall at St Peter’s Abbey in Muenster, Saskatchewan. The result of his poetic retreat is Blood of Angels, a work divided into three balanced sections: The first, "The Harvest of Souls", divines the hermits, aesthetic recluses, borderline ethereal beings and angels who preceded Safarik at the Abbey’s guest house; the second, "Holy Road", belongs to disciples, indwellers, trespassers and to God; and the third, aptly entitled "Abbey Meditations" delivers the formal meditations on Safarik’s transcendental experience. While a reader may think that Blood of Angels is rapt in contemplative tone, they will discover that Safarik is an experienced craftsman who can manage and manipulate language for the widest possible audience.
